Anita O'Day

Anita O'Day, a trained drummer, was a survivor. Although this is rather an arch performance she has a wonderful voice. The song, of course, is deeply peculiar.

Always a dubious song. 'Hi I'm on the game' or however we say it in polite company these days. What is really intersting is the lack of autotune, which proves that to sing properly, and in tune, you can't be jumping around the stage. And none of the warbling thats all the rage these days.

It also maybe, perhaps, shows up a bad legacy of the punk ethos. Sure, punk was good because it allowed everyone to have a go. But did it maybe allow a long term dropping of standards? Or am I just getting old?

I'll give you a quid if you post a clip of the black and white minstrel show :)
